It is Ours :)

On July 13th, we signed the papers and met the architect at the Bothy to have a walkthrough of priorities. It was so lovely to be back in the garden, albeit very, very different from my last visit in December. My fantasies of making a magical garden would not be hard as nature was fully living here and loving the freedom and lack of people!

My first impressions were of how much bigger it was than I remember. The 1-acre space within the walls seemed twice the size I remember. The large office buildings just behind the south wall had been torn down, and all you could see was an endless sky.

The grass had grown up overall buy two of the WW2 concrete blocks, and the paths were entirely hidden by vines and grasses. The Bothy entrance was wholly covered by fig-trees, and in the greenhouse, you could no longer see any of the mess I took photos of in December. It was just a mass of green of every shape and size, and it was so stunning.

Mark and I looked at each other in absolute delight and said almost in unison, “how can we keep it looking like this?” We want to restore the garden to its roots, but we also want it to keep this wild “nature’s in charge here” kind of feeling.

After a lovely long visit, we drove off to Barbury Castle to walk and think and then to our new town Marlborough for a beautiful evening meal. Before taking off back to London, our heads were utterly full of ideas, dreams, and dreams happiness.
